Foehn Forecast Alps – Three Axis
The forecast of the barometric difference (unit: hectopascal, symbol: hPa) between Lugano and Zurich for the next 5 days is based on MeteoGroup’s MOS statistical method and is updated every hour. The barometric difference is an index of the currents between one side of the Alps and another. If the difference is negative, the pressure in Zurich is higher than in Lugano.
Starting from a barometric difference of approx. 4 hPa, foehn winds may arise from the north. Otherwise, foehn winds blow from the south. The larger the barometric difference, the stronger the foehn winds generally are, although other factors can also play a decisive role.
